Scope and Contents
The first preparatory drawing for this work dealing with smoking and breathing utilized a red formica accordion as its main element. In the sculpture, this was changed to a machine-like aluminum piece. Two tape cassettes are played in the sculpture, a sound poem pronounced differently depending upon the breathing pattern, the other multiple breathing sounds including snoring and accompanying a sexual orgasm. Another element is the word "AIR" formed within Plexiglas by stacking cigarette packs. This work was commissioned for "The Beauty in Breathing" exhibition. -- Source of annotation: Marvin or Ruth Sackner.
