Scope and Contents
This seventy-eighth page is titled "Dante in Raleigh." This page contains elements from Phillips' exhibition at the North Carolina Museum of Art with works selected from the Sackner Archive opening November 15, 1990. There are seven small leaves collaged onto the page. The upper left-hand corner contains the printed invitation with a page from A Humument reproduced. Segments from A TV Dante were also shown and a torn ticket stub to a concert "Alexander Nevsky". The Sackners participated in all events with Phillips .Also collaged is a card from a local art gallery exhibiting Phillips' work, stickers of an American flag and a ping-pong paddle (Tom is a major player!) and a torn illustration of a screen from A TV Dante. Phillips writes "From New York to Raleigh with Richard Minsky & Ruth & Marvin Sackner (We had all been celebrating the Class of '47 in Bleecker St. the night before). Met at airport by Huston Pascal who has been in constant touch over every detail of catalogue and show for the past few months. We had a quick look at the beautifully laid out exhibition & at Marita Gilliam''s gallery where I have a little print exhibition that I hope will make some money. Then to give a lecture to accompany the muddy transfer of A TV Dante which none the less was enthusiastically received, despite poor sound and impenetrable picture. Jonathan Williams & Tom Meyer came to the lunch at the gallery the following day as of course did the Sackners: for the first time looking at the show I realized how shrewd their selection has been. I gave another talk for the museum docents. Went to see Alexander Nevsky with Prokofiev's ghastly music and had supper with Huston & the Sackners. Richard had left after getting excited about buying a car. Dinner the following day after a pleasant bit of sightseeing with Jonathan's elegant photographer friend Elizabeth. Another dinner at Chapel Hill & lunch in Durham with Huston before going to the airport.......Most of the time walking in the autumn woods or in the splendid shopping mall where they were giving clothes away." -- Source of annotation: Marvin or Ruth Sackner.
