Scope and Contents

This seventy-ninth page is titled "Dante Takes the Biscuit. Collaged to the center of the page is a reproduction of a review article from Montreal headlined 'Close Up,' 'Dante' takes top honors at Nouveau festival. The review reports that "U.K. video 'A TV Dante' by Peter Greenaway and Tom Phillips, were the winners at the 19th Festival Intl. du Nouveau Cinema et de Video, which wrapped Oct. 29. Chosen from among the 70 eligible videos, Greenaway's "Dante" was described as masterpiece by jury McKay (U.S.) and Colin Campbell (Canada). McKay said Greenaway's and Phillip's vision had the intensity and depth that you usually get with an installation with multiple monitors. The directors - who were not on hand for the closing ceremonies - will receive a $C2,000 check from Sony of Canada.Collaged on the left side of the page is an invitation to Festa Italiana where the restaurant suite is temporarily renamed 'Dante's Inferno' for the evening's event .On the lower left corner Phillips writes "XXVI/XI/XC New attempts to chase up the elusive TV Dante project. The whole thing has become a producerless bore & I am a mere spectator of administrative dances.... all innocent I go to meet Jeremy at the opera...Waiting for him I invest 1.80 lbs in a programme and idly flip through it, only to find to my amazement a colour repro of Dante in His Study & the relevant passage... from my translation printed as a double page spread: no permission granted, no payment made.XXIX/XI/XC. Alison rings up in a positive mood telling me about the Montreal prize etc & that Gielgud is since standing by." -- Source of annotation: Marvin or Ruth Sackner.
