Scope and Contents

This eighty fourth page consists of Phillips' visit to Bayreuth and return to London describing the new developments with TV Dante. Phillips writes "June/July XCI. Lucy has finally sorted out & collated the copies of Inferno. John Duffin only finished the printing in April - how long has it been & the book still costing money & losing money! But a real sense of satisfaction to know how things stand at last.. Forty copies. I made Lucy collate one for herself. July XX It now seems certain that a TV Dante is to be the Ch 4 entry to the Italia prize: Oona gave first word when she was asked to do French subtitles for it. Then Ken Thompson mentioned it. A nice irony that they are proud of the project." On August XV Phillips writes that he had supper with Michael K. at the Caprice and he writes " Keep thinking that Dante news can get no worse But it can, it can. Michael tells me over supper that Dante IS going on, that John Gielgud IS booked to record in September & I know nothing , am not consulted & apparently not to be involved. Is my translation being used...etc." The collage elements on the page include a card from Le Caprice, newspaper portrait of Wagner, map of the Wagner museums, logo of Channel 4 and a reproduction of Dante's head. -- Source of annotation: Marvin or Ruth Sackner.
