Scope and Contents
This is one of the first artist's books produced by the photo-offset printing method. Internet: Stiff lithographed covers with 26 pages of double-sided plates by Magalhaes, glued spine, housed in printed, stiff paper slipcase. Prints in fine condition, but glue to cloth under spine undone leaving plates loose. A scarce title from Feldman's Falcon Press and an even scarcer early work by Brasilian artist Magalhaes (1927-1982). Feldman's colophon notes that the artist had been affiliated with the university perss at Recife, Pernambuco, there engaged in publishing books on printing arts in Brasil and came to the Falcon Press in Philadelphia under a US State Department grant to work directly with camera, plates and press. The reslut is this book that takes words in Portugeuse, with each alphabetized page of word (or words) a result of a different printing process. -- Source of annotation: Marvin or Ruth Sackner.
