There are three major poems opening each section of this book of poetry, each of which relates to cigarette smoking. The first, "Descending the Lung," reads "Hand over hand, we inch. Our grips are fine hairs, moving in their tides. We sink from rung landscape, arcing to the edges of the body. Looking over shoulders we can see it: lung, translucent mine, its dim.
