scurryfunge, 1999

 Item — Box: 287
Identifier: CC-49524-70570
Scope and Contents

Sloy did the drawings and Dave made the box which they gifted to the Sackners in memory of their visit to their studio home in 2009. During this first meeting, the Sackners mentioned one of their favorite, unusual words that almost eveyone does at sometime in their house. Scurryfunge is an archaic English word that means "a hasty tidying of the house between the time you see a neighbor and the time she knocks on the door." Sloy liked it so much that she did these fantastic calligraphic drawings that featured this word. -- Source of annotation: Marvin or Ruth Sackner.

BBB (Beatrice's Black Book), St. Cyre Rule, 1983 - 1985

 Item — Box: 287
Scope and Contents

The item appears to be an unnumbered part of Katz' BBB (Beatrice's Black Book) series, so it might be considered tangetial, unofficial, or supplemental. The item is also three-dimensional, the "language" written out on crafted tiles that mimic those found in a word puzzle or game, in contrast to the usual use of paper collages for most of the series.

As with the rest of BBB, this item seems to have been created for Katz' film, Mirror on the Moon (1992).

Katz likely referred to the St. Cyr Rule resulting from the case of Immigration and Naturalization Service v. St. Cyr (2001).

[Rebus Copper Book], 1997

 Item — Box: 287
Identifier: CC-29152-30497
Scope and Contents This densely worked book presents the rebuses of Afrika that are a continuum of the "spheres of interimagery" in the Russian social structure as expressed in folkloric tradition and in the theories of Mayakovsky and by anonymous artists. " In Afrika's rebuses, one can read the colour, texture, heaviness, light, and sound reflectability of the material...Things return to life, become oxidized, and undergo different transformations...The rebus is surrounded by an ornament which gives them all the character of an icon or of a folk-art picture. A confessional ornament is laid upon well-developed communist symbols. A catalogue titled "Rebus" held by the Sackner Archive, published by Avant-Garde, Moscow and Paul Judelson Arts, New York illustrates and describes the copper works of Afrika. The following is an introduction by oleysa turkina and victor mazin and translated by a d haun from "Rebus II: Works on Copper" I-20 gallery, ny (1997).
