Scope and Contents The Gwyn Jones Lectures Collection consists of the scripts of five lectures presented by Mr. Jones during his visit to The University of Iowa. Although not dated, it is believed these lectures were given about 1983, or 15 years after he completed writing A History of the Vikings.

It consists of the University's earliest known records documenting its business transactions, academic activity, and external communications. For the most part the material was prepared or received by William J. Haddock (1832-1906), secretary to the Board of Trustees, later Regents, from 1864 to 1901. Scope and Contents There have been two University Oral History Projects, the first in 1976-1977 (James Beilman), the second in 1999-2001 (Linda Yanney). The first was transcript focused (although a partial set of the sound recordings exists) while the second, digitally recorded and transcribed with computer-edited files, preserved both original recording and transcripts. There is also a box of transcript excepts of interviews conducted by D.C. Spreistersbach for his book, "The Way It Was."
