Several words in the introductory text, which are printed in an Italic typeface, appear to be made-up French words. The text in the second half of the book is printed in a more traditional type face and includes pages with spacial layout, text in the form of an eye, numbers which run beyond the set border and use of intervening capital typefaces. All the pages are bordered with a thin blue line. This copy is missing a reproduction of an original water color. -- Source of annotation: Marvin or Ruth Sackner.

fragment of a book that does not exist[CR]fragment of a book that does not exist / Valoch, Jiri., 1972
William Allen: One of Valoch's most successful prints - a discourse on books by artists and conceptualism. In Guy Schraenen's book on Artist's Books "BUCHLER UBER BUCHER" (Neues Museum, Weserburg, Bremen, 1993) a special homage is paid to the print - where a reprint of the 'fragment' was laid into the publication. The reprint is on different paper & sized differently (text stretched and wider on non textured paper) and does not have the historic 'actual fragment' feel of the original (& is of course not signed etc). In the catalogue the work is listed as 1973, edition of 9 suggesting that this print is the true first edition (signed edition of 50), or possibly that the details of the original were incorrectly given to Schraenen ? -- Source of annotation: Marvin or Ruth Sackner.
