As Brecht writes in the introduction: "We talked about letters, and Chinese, while / listening to jazz: Lester Young, Billie Holiday / Yardbird, and others. / Richard Hamilton's artrubberprint "Five Tires' / was cut up, stamped, glued. / There was plenty to drink, too! / We have never thought of these "drawings' as / works to be shown, let alone reproduced. The drawing on a heavy brown paper utilizes a grid of graphite inscribed squares that are filled in a random fashion with vividly painted letters and numbers. The latter appeared to have been laid out with a stencil and encompassed one to three square constellations. The poems in this book were given to Charles Verey by Valoch and are now in the collection of Willliam Allen, the book dealer. Thre book was printed by Colin Sackett. In a letter to Verey reproduced in this book, Valoch declares that the four optical, concrete poems later reproduced in this book are a gift to Verey.
