This exhibition was curated by John M. Bennett who organized the event and edited the catalogue. The exhibition featured the work of William S. Burroughs with most of the material lent by Robert Jackson, a Cleveland book collector. This catalogue was presented at the conference and exhibition sponsored by OSU Rare Books and Manuscripts Library. The exhibition was curated by John M Bennett who organized the event, edited the catalogue and conducted the presentations. Marvin Sackner was the keynote speaker for the conference and presented a powerpoint talk, "A Survey of the Sackner Archive." Geoffrey D. Smith, Director of Rare Books, wrote an inciteful essay, "Collecting the New." John M. The Sackner Archive lent several works of the three artist-poets to the exhibition including Cleveland Prints, The North American Book of the Dead, Scarab Poems by d.a. levy; The Journal of Albion Moonlight, Cloth of the Tempest, Sleepers Awake by Kenneth Patchen; 18th Dynasty Egyptian Turnon by D.r. Wagner. Although there was no check list with the catalogue, the superb installation photographs of the books and prints in cases more than make up for this oversight. This item consists of the photographs used for producing the limited edition book of 29 copies with the same title. Robert Krauthammer, the publisher of this book, was a famous Swiss book collector/dealer who also owned the 'A' copies of Henri Chopin's Collection Ou. Some of these 'A' copies are now held by the Sackner Archive. The title poem photograph was signed by by Clahsen, the remainder were rubberstamped on the verso. -- Source of annotation: Marvin or Ruth Sackner.

Scope and Contents Printed by John Furnival as a single or as two copies, probably trial proofs, and never realized as an edition. Ten prints comprise an identical grid of 64 different ampersands in different colors on different colored paper stock and weights. There are 2 copies of the title page. In 6 prints, a grid of 31 x 32 ampersands is manipulated from a rectangular to an overprinted optical image. Three grids of 64 ampersands are identical. The Sackner copy is the most complete copy of this work. In Ceolfrith 14, Furnival's exhibition catalogue 1971, the work is mentioned by Bann and interpeted by Furnival as an incomplete folder. Getty Research Institute, the only other collection with this work indicated that the prints consist of dense rows of ampersands in a variety of styles, printed and overprinted. Their copy is dated 1969 snd contains 6 prints.. A version called "Amber sands" was constructed in wood by Kenelm Cox for the Brighton Festival, 1967. Cf. Concrete poetry -- Source of...
