Scope and Contents

This book is one of the most extensive collection of word-image material with emphasis on concrete poems ever commercially published. The text is brief, e.g., a preface by Jean-Francois Bory and a postface by Isabelle Maunet-Salliet. Each image is printed one to a page. Although the emphasis is on French poets, there are images from poets all over the world. Significant omissions that are bound to occur in such a large undertaking include among others d.a. levy, Dick Higgins, Dom Silvester Houedard, Steve McCaffery, bill bissett, Edgardo-Antonio Vigo, Leon Ferrari, Mira Schendel, Ana Hatherly, Herman de Vries, Ernesto M. de Melo e Castro, Ben, Herman Damen, Enzo Miglietta, Carlfriedrich Claus, Alan Riddell, and Rachid Koriachi. -- Source of annotation: Marvin or Ruth Sackner.

Calligraphy Series / Hasekura, Takako., 1997

 Item
Identifier: CC-28281-29456
Scope and Contents

The prints are composed of scanned handwritten, lower case, colored text placed in rectangular grids. The calligraphy is so precise that on first glance it appears to be computer or typewritten generated text. But on close scrutiny, the slight differences from letter to letter identify the text as handwriting. The suite was a presentation made to the Sackners on their request to purchase originals of the artist's work which was done on the basis of these reproductions. Two of the handwritten poems are bordered with collages. The titles of each poem are printed below the poem both in English and Japanese. These include Violet/Violent, Egoism/Mine and Willow/Weep/Pillow. -- Source of annotation: Marvin or Ruth Sackner.

Calling / Kaprow, Allan; Higgins, Dick., 1967

 Item
Identifier: CC-50273-71340
Scope and Contents Dick Higgins comments are printed on the verso of the plywood cover. They read "Calling, a Happening by Allan Kaprow performed in and out of New York in the summer of 1965, is one of the landmarks of the form, and its scenario typifies the poetic rictual syle he has developed. This present graphic representation, however, began as an improvision when Kaprow, playing with a set of rubber stamp letters, stamped out each word of the scenario on a separate index card. I continued the game by assembling the cards on the copyboard of a graphic arts camera and shooting themby adding an element of color play. The resulting object os not, however, a final one in any sense. While the original acenario may be read by starting from bottom to top, right hand column to left hand, on the silver, blue, red, yellow, and, finally, brown sheets, there are other stories which the reader is invited to tell, other games for him to play." Kaprow died at age 78 years in San Diego on April 5, 2006 --...
