Duchamp's three visits to the Arensbergs in Los Angeles and his participation at the Western Round Table on Modern Art in San Francisco 1949 are described. In a transcript of an interview, George Hermes stated: The great gift Duchamp gave all artists I feel, is if you take the word "painter" and change one letter, it becomes "pointer." The artist must "point" out the beauty of the world that exists and come up with a comparable product.
