Scope and Contents This edition also includes about 50 uncollected and unpublished poems and others written for Morgan's 70th birthday celebration.Internet: Edwin Morgan was born in Glasgow in 1920, first starting to write while at Glasgow High School. He studied English at Glasgow University, but his studies were interrupted by the Second World War, during which he enlisted in the Royal Army Medical Corps. He returned to University after the War and graduated in 1947. From 1947-1980 he taught English at Glasgow University, becoming Professor of English in 1975. During this time time he produced a major body of poetry and critical essays. He also wrote plays, libretti, and several works of translation. He travelled widely after the 1950s and translated poetry from many languages, particularly Russian, Hungarian, Spanish, Portuguese, German, Italian and French. Scope and Contents Although Swenson's book, 'Iconographs' is recognized for multitude of shaped poems, this book depicts several other examples throughout her poetic career. These include poems from the following books, ' To Mix with Time' (1963) and 'Half Sun Half Sleep' (1967). In a section of 'Collected Poems' (2013) entitled 'Notes on the Text page 726, it is mentioned that the shaped poems of 'Iconographs' were oroginally published in a typewriter font preferred by Swenson.Alfred Corn Review from Poetry Magazine (December 2, 2013:Definition won't be easy, and it has to begin by taking her biography into account. The profile of the provincial who comes to New York in hopes of ?becoming a celebrated artist is standard enough, but in Swenson's case several non-routine factors should also be ?considered. Scope and Contents Gael Turnbull (7 April 1928 - 2 July 2004) was a Scottish poet who was an important precursor of the British Poetry Revival. Turnbull was born in Edinburgh and grew up in the North of England and in Canada. He studied Natural Science at Cambridge University and graduated in Medicine from the University of Pennsylvania in 1951. In 1957, Turnbull started Migrant Press, one of the first British-run presses to focus on poets in the modernist tradition. His work was featured in the groundbreaking Revival anthology Children of Albion: Poetry of the Underground in Britain (1969). His own books include A Gathering of Poems 1950-1980 (1983) and Rattle of Scree: Poems (1997). He was also published in the anthologies The New British Poetry (1988), Other: British and Irish Poetry since 1970 (1999) and Anthology of Twentieth-Century British and Irish Poetry (2001). This book includes poems of cut-ups begun in 1956. The method was to decide on the number of lines, clip out newspaper lines of the required number, and paste them up in an effective order to give an appearance of a conventional poem. This work antedates Gysin's 1959 cut-ups, usually attributed as the first to employ it.
