Biography

50-50 in 2020 was a bipartisan, issue-neutral organization dedicated to increasing political participation by women in the state of Iowa. The group was founded by Jean Lloyd-Jones, a longtime Democratic state legislator representing Johnson County, and Maggie Tinsman, a Republican who represented Scott County in the Iowa Senate. 50/50 in 2020 sought to reach the benchmark of 50% of seats in the Iowa legislature held by women by the year 2020. The organization also targeted statewide and national offices, and achieved their goals of seeing Iowa's first women elected to the U.S. House and Senate as well as the governorship within their years of operation. 50-50 in 2020 conducted candidate trainings, arranged mentorship opportunities, and conducted press outreach and events to recruit women to run for office.
