Biography

Weare Holbrook was born in Green Bay, Wisconsin, on April 15, 1896. He was a graduate of the University of Iowa and a veteran of World War I. Holbrook worked as a columnist, writer and cartoonist. He contributed articles and poetry to Atlantic, Cosmopolitan, Better Homes and Gardens, Stag, Snappy, College Humor, and others. For twenty-four years he wrote the column Soundings for the New York Hearld Tribune. In the 1920s he created Clarence, a Sunday cartoon strip with Frank Fogarty, which appeared for twenty-one years in the Herald Tribune Syndicate. Weare Holbrook died on July 2, 1985.
