Biography

Lucille Schlotterback, member of the 1927 Newhall girls' high school state championship basketball team was born November 13, 1910, in Newhall, Iowa. She was raised on a farm located near the extended family of Schlotterback cousins in Benton County. She was a sophomore on the Newhall high school basketball team that won the state championship in 1927. Her cousins Luella Gardemann and Melba Gardemann, were forwards on the team. Schlotterback graduated from Newhall High School in 1929.

In September of 1929, Schlotterback married Arnold Luwe. They had one daughter, Dolores Luwe, before divorcing in 1934. The following year, she married Harold Struve. They had one son, Donald Struve, in 1938 before she died in September of that year. Harold Struve saved her high school jersey until Raea and Donald Struve donated it to the Iowa Women's Archives in 1999.
