Biography
Dr. Pamela Jean Doocy-Curry was born June 16, 1964, in Spirit Lake, Iowa, one of five children of Gladys Kathleen Helland Doocy, a teacher, and George Bernard Doocy Jr., a builder, painter, car service manager, and oil distributor. Doocy graduated from Spirit Lake High School in 1982, then earned a bachelor's degree in elementary education from Iowa State University and a doctorate in the field of instruction and curriculum leadership from the University of Memphis in 1999. In 1991, Doocy married Jeffrey Curry; the couple have two daughters, Jayden (born 1994) and JuleLayne (born 1999). Dr. Doocy-Curry worked as a middle school teacher in the late 1980s and 1990s before becoming a professor of statistics and research at Union University in Germantown, Tennessee, where she currently lives and continues to teach gifted K-8 students. Along with her sister, Diana Koppen, Dr. Doocy-Curry has written a biography of their aunt, Marion Helland, a teacher and civil rights activist (see IWA1390).
