Biography

Edna Lois Jones was born in rural Washington County, Iowa in 1908 to William and Edith (Helm) Jones. She graduated from Washington High School in 1927, and worked as a country school teacher. Jones was an avid genealogist and a member of the Washington County chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). She was a founding member of the Washington County Historical Society and served as its president. Jones is listed as the editor and artist of Nathan Littler's History of Washington County, 1835-1875 (located in University of Iowa's Special Collections) and transcribed the Washington County Marriage Records from 1839 to 1883 (located at the State Historical Society in Iowa City). At 95, she published her first book, Hollyhocks and Hitching Posts, a history of Washington County. Edna Jones died in 2009.
