General

Sixteen years old seems to be a rather young age for a person to retire from his chosen field, except when that field is a newspaper carrier boy. The thing which puts Richard Leavitt in the enviable position, not only of other youths but also many adults, is that during the nearly five years he carried papers for the Evening Journal he saved a total of $1,000. Richard said he arrived at that total by putting aside amounts ranging from $1 to $6.50 each week while carrying papers. What is he going to do with all that money now? Young businessman Leavitt relates he will probably invest it in a mutual stock fund.; 1959_07 #03 Mangold Appliance Ad for Electronic Organs; Following an achievement program held here Saturday afternoon Janet Canady, left, and Linda Warner, right, were selected to represent the Beeliners 4-H Club by presenting a demonstration entitled "Just the Band and Ties Don't Get The Prize" at the annual Washington County Fair which will be held at the fairgrounds here Monday through Friday next week, August 3 through 7. The picture above shows the two girls as they were practicing on the demonstration at the Warner home Monday. Linda Warner is shown ironing a side lem on a apron as Janet looks on. Linda is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Merle Warner and Janet is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Merritt Canady, both of Washington.;Annual installation ceremonies were held during the Leon Beatty American Legion Post meeting here Tuesday evening. Shown in the center, receiving congratulations from the installing officer, First District Commander Bob Dickson of Burlington, right, is the new post commander, Earl Galloway. On the left is the former post commander Charles Livingston and on the right of Galloway is S.W. Kaster, local post adjutant who was presented with a life membership to the local post during Tuesday night's meeting.
