Kiwanis Koffee Kar; At a dinner meeting held in his honor, Jesse Meeks, right, is pictured talking with the man under who he is now working, Daryl Pearson, Ainsworth Postmaster. Effective the first of this month Meeks retired as postmaster of the Haskins Post Office which has been changed into a rural mail station of which Meeks is in charge, working under the Ainsworth Post Office.; The Washington Junior Chamber of Commerce chapter was host to a regional Jaycee meeting held in the Legion Hall here Wednesday evening with state vice president Dale Doggett of the local organization in charge of the meeting. The picture above was taken as the group of state and local Jaycee officers was holding the usual informal discussion before the meeting. In the picture, from left to right, are Dean Arbuckle of Jefferson, state president; Leo Beauchamp of Washington, local Jaycee president: Dale Doggett; and Ed Rains of Keota, national director of the organization. The meeting was held to discuss national and state projects for the local level with chapters from Iowa City, Burlington, Mt. Pleasant, Wayland, Oskaloosa, Marshalltown, and Keota represented. A lunch was held following the meeting.; Washington High School's marching band ended its regular season Tuesday evening with a half-lime performance at the football games and has started a fund-raising project which it hopes will eventually provide money needed for the purchase of new uniforms. Band members have started selling "Birthday Calendars." A nominal charge is made for butting a subscriber's name on the birthday calendar. The calendars then are distributed free of charge to each family which has ordered one or more names. It is estimated that about $6,000 will be needed to purchase new uniforms for the 80-piece band. Alan Bergstrom is director of the band which is now starting work on its concert appearances during the coming months.
