1959_10 #22 #23 #24: A high point of this season of play in the Southeast Iowa Football Conference for the Brighton Bears came Friday night when they turned in an upset victory over top-ranked Wayland. The loss knocked Wayland back to a three-way tie for first place. Shown in the top picture here are Brighton co-captains Tom Pech, left, and Howard Emry, center, talking over a few plays with head coach Dick Peterson before the Wayland game last Friday night.; The sale of hundreds of the little red "buddy poppies" on annual Poppy Day, which was held here in Washington Saturday, Sept. 26, was started off with Mayor L.M. Eicher, right, purchasing the first poppy from Avis Widmer, president of the junior unit of the local V.F.W. Auxiliary and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Widmer of Washington. Saturday's annual Poppy Day was sponsored locally by the local V.F.W. post with the assistance of the V.F.W. Auxiliary and the young girls who are members of the junior unit.; Halcyon House resident
