General

Martha Young, now a student at Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls and president of Washington High School's Art Service Club last year, is shown here as she look a look at the Certificate of Honor earned by the club for its work last year. The award is sponsored by Parents' Magazine on a nationwide basis. With Young in this picture is Carleton Bump, faculty advisor for the Art Service Club.; Santa Claus stepped from a helicopter shortly after 10 a.m. Saturday on the southwest corner of the square here to make his first appearance of the season in Washington. A large crowd of youngsters were on hand to greet and be greeted by the jolly fellow with the long white beard who also passed out free candy to the group of children. Santa's visit was sponsored by the local Chamber of Commerce and marked the official opening of the Christmas season in Washington stores.; Band Concert Advance Photo
