Biographical / Historical
Steven Allen Carlson was born August 2, 1946, and a 1964 graduate of Fremont Mills High School in Tabor, Iowa. He was a son of Oscar Allen Carlson and Doris (Munsinger) Carlson. Steven received his Bachelor of Arts degree in English from the University of Iowa in 1969. He was a 42-year employee of Hy-Vee and also owned and managed a used record store in Iowa City for several years. He was an avid photographer, writer, and pianist. Steven was active in the Iowa City LGBT community, and volunteered for ICARE, an AIDS support service organization. Steven died at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics on December 27, 2020. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Stanley.
