This collection contains materials pertaining to the professional career of Brian Ross, an award winning investigative journalist and prestigious alumni of the University of Iowa. This collection also contains born digital and digitized materials given to Ross from ABC after he retired. Content includes an "aired stories index" as well as filmed broadcasts produced by Ross's partner and award-winning executive producer Rhonda Schwartz.

Materials include writings, newspapers and clippings, correspondence, photographs, research materials, legal documents, interview transcripts, awards, and ephemera spanning Ross's early career prior to working for his first major network, NBC News until his departure from ABC News in 2018. A majority of the materials cover Ross's biggest news stories and historical elections throughout his decades long career.

Biographical / Historical

Brian Ross is a distinguished alumni of the University of Iowa and an award winning Investigative journalist. Born and raised in Chicago, Ross earned his Bachelors in Journalism in 1971 from the Unversity of Iowa School of Journalism. After graduation, Ross began working at KWWL Waterloo, Iowa from 1972-1974 before working for WCKT-TV in Miami and WKYC TV in Cleveland. Ross worked as a correspondent for both NBC Nightly News and Dateline NBC from 1976 until 1994. Brian Ross switched networks and assumed his role of Chief Investigative reporter for ABC programs such as 20/20, Nightline, Good Morning America, and World News Tonight until his departure from the network in 2018. Brian Ross has covered some of the most signifcant events in recent history and has worked alongside some of the most prominent news figures like Dan Rather, Tom Brokaw, and Jane Pauley. Ross has received numerous Emmy and Peabody Awards.

Rhonda Schwartz is an award winning investigative journalist with a 5 decade career at both NBC and ABC Network News where she led the investigative team with her long time reporting partner Investigative journalist Brian Ross. Schwartz has received numerous awards including over a dozen Emmys, mulitple duPont-Columbia, Peabody and Polk awards as well as Edward R Murrow, IRE, Peabody and the prestigious Harvard Goldsmith Prize, among others.
