The Prairie Progressive Papers document the history and production of The Prairie Progressive, a quarterly political newsletter published for Iowa’s Democratic Left, beginning in July 1985. The collection consists primarily of issues of the newsletter, including mimeographed early issues and later printed editions, spanning the newsletter’s run. Biographical / Historical

In July of 1985, University of Iowa history professor Jeff Cox mimeographed and stapled the first issue of “The Democratic Socialists of America Iowa Newsletter.” By Labor Day of 1986, the four-page broadside was reborn as The Prairie Progressive, A Newsletter for Iowa’s Democratic Left.
