Biographical / Historical
Dr. Charles Edward Hawtrey received his M.D. degree at the University of Iowa in 1969 and was named faculty that same year. He is considered the first pediatric urologist at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. He interned at Iowa in 1962 under Dr. Rubin Flocks. The American Urological Association awarded Hawtrey the Golden Cane Award for outstanding contributions to AUA. He retired in 2002. Charles E. Hawtrey was born in Wisconsin in 1935 and graduated in 1957 from Grinnell College in Grinnell, Iowa. He and his wife, Jo Ann, had five children and the family were members of the Trinity Episcopal Church in Iowa City, Iowa.
