Scope and Contents

The WAVES collection documents the student ran the Asian film festival, WAVES, from 2003 to 2007. The collection contains documents such as program booklets, fliers for their events, and emails where the WAVES leadership team planned the film festival by communicating with potential filmmakers, corporate sponsors, and the student body.

Biographical / Historical

WAVES was a student run Asian film festival which began in 2000. As one of the founders of WAVES, M. Rosalind Sagara, put it, the name WAVES brought up “the concept of water and waves, something that a lot of AAPI (Asian American Pacific Islanders) students can relate to.” The film festival brought in filmmakers to participate in panel presentations and provided outlets for community discussions about representation in cinema for Asian, Asian Americans, and the Asian diaspora broadly.
