The Sisters of Charity of the Blessed Virgin Mary records date from 1913 to 2018 and measure 3.92 linear feet (8 boxes); included are photocopies of letters dating from 1858 to 1919. The collection is organized into four series: Administrative, Historical, Publications, and Scrapbooks. The Administrative series (1979-2004) contains BVM constitutions, directories, and materials on the BVM mission and ministry. Some materials are in Spanish.

The Historical series (1958-2008) contains materials related to the history of BVM and its founders. Included are scanned copies of letters from Mary Frances Clarke, Rev. Terence Donaghoe, and Cecilia Dougherty, lists of BVM schools in Iowa, publications on the history of BVM, newspaper clippings, and a pamphlet on the BVM Association, the association of laywomen and laymen that are formally associated with BVM.

The Publications series (1913-2014) contains materials published by BVM through their press, the Mount Carmel Press, and other printed materials related to BVM. Materials include hymnals, religious reflections and prayers, and a book, La familia más grande del mundo, on the Centro del Muchacho Trabajador (“Working Boys’ Center), a facility in Quito, Ecuador that offers social programs, education, and support for working children. La familia más grande del mundo is in Spanish. Also included in this series is the Periodicals sub-series, which contains bound volumes of the BVM quarterlies Our Herald, BVM Vista, and Salt. The quarterlies cover daily life of the sisters and their service.

The Scrapbooks series (2008-2018) contains scrapbooks created by BVM sisters on the Postville, Iowa immigration raid that took place in 2008. The scrapbooks contain newspaper clippings, photographs, handwritten materials, flyers, and meeting notes. The scrapbooks cover news directly after the raid, and anniversaries of the raid.
