From the Collection:

The Blanche Redman papers date from 1921 to 1994 and measure 7.5 linear inches. The collection is divided into three series: General, New Deal Art in Iowa, and Writing.

The General (1973-1994) series concerns Redman’s personal interests and her extended family. The Biographical folder contains Redman’s obituary, and a newspaper article about the Redman family in Ottumwa, Iowa. This series includes materials about Redman’s chapter of the American Association of University Women (AAUW and photographs of Redman. This series also contains two photographs and a newspaper article about the Kozlen and Dine families, relatives of Redman’s niece, Betty Redman Kozlen.

The New Deal Art in Iowa (1972-1975) series contains materials related to Redman’s efforts to find and register art produced in Iowa as a part of the Works Progress Administration’s (WPA) Public Works of Art Project (PWAP). Redman spent several years searching for New Deal Art across the state of Iowa. This series includes correspondence and newspaper clippings related to her search, forms for recording found art, and a report about the beginnings of the project and her progress up to 1972.

The Writing (1973-1986) series contains materials related to Redman’s writing, and particularly her poetry. The series includes awards she received for her writing and three examples of the Writers Studio Newsletter, a publication Redman founded and edited in the Quad Cities.
