Scope and Contents

From the Collection:

The Ohsman Berg Family papers date from 1900 to 2018 and measure 18 linear inches (6 boxes). The papers are arranged in five series: Family Records, Correspondence, Printed works, Audiovisual, and Photographs. The papers are organized by individual family member within series where possible.

The Family Records series (1930-2018) includes papers related to family plots in a Cedar Rapids cemetery, marriage and death certificates, and brokerage business licenses. A Bas Mitzvah service pamphlet and Yahrzeit calendar are present as well as items related to the Order of the Eastern Star.

The Correspondence series (1946-1979) includes postcards from Luxembourg and Miami as well as personal and business letters, both handwritten and typed.

The Printed Works series (1952-1986) contains publications relevant to personal, business, and religious life.

The Audiovisual series (post-1972) consists of one cassette tape recording of a St. Louis radio broadcast.

The Photographs series (c.1900-1993) includes five photo albums as well as loose photographs, the majority of which portray family members. The photo albums and many of the loose photographs were collected by Selma Berg Thea, the unofficial family historian. The extensive photographs provide a rich portrait of this midwestern Jewish family over the course of the 20th century.
