Scope and Contents
The Church Women United, Johnson County, records date from 1963 to 2013 and measure 9.25 linear inches. The records consist of administrative materials such as correspondence with the national organization, treasurer's reports, and yearbooks, as well as two scrapbooks documenting the group's history. The scrapbooks are bound and contain photographs, newspaper clippings, handouts, brochures, bylaws, and posters. The collection contains a filmstrip and recording prepared by CWU for use among local groups to help them understand the work of CWU. The collection also contains three videocassettes. The videocassette "Gentle, Angry People" addresses women and poverty in the United States, while the other two video recordings tell the history of Church Women United and the story of a Christian Palestinian family of Beitzahour. Materials on the organization's response to the 500th anniversary of Christopher Columbus' arrival in the Americas and a health care workshop hosted by Church Women United, Johnson County, complete the collection.
