Biographical / Historical

Lucille Williamson Burdette was born on a farm near Shell Rock, Iowa in 1919. She earned a degree from the Kahler School of Nursing in Rochester Minnesota followed by a Bachelor of Science with Distinction from the University of Minnesota. While training as a nurse, Burdette completed correspondence courses at the Moody Bible School, graduating in 1947 with majors in Bible and Missions.

In 1948, Burdette began her work as a missionary in Nigeria, caring for patients suffering from Hansen’s disease (leprosy). She remained in Africa until 1971 when she returned home to care for her mother. She married Forrest Burdette that same year. Burdette retired from nursing in 1973 and enjoyed hobbies such as rock hunting, jewelry making, and crocheting during her retirement.
