Scope and Contents
The Sharon Tinker papers date from 1958-2002 and measure fifteen linear inches. The papers comprise five series: Personal, Education, 4-H, Scrapbooks, and Photographs.
The Personal (1958-1991) series contains many materials relating to Tinker’s early life, including her baby book, Children’s Mass Book, and newspaper clippings from her days in high school and at the University of Iowa. The series also includes a funeral program and obituary for her paternal grandmother Margaret Tinker.
The Education series (1963-1991) contains books and papers accumulated throughout Tinker’s school educational career. One album entitled “School Days” chronicles Tinker from kindergarten through college, complete with school photos and report cards. This series includes yearbooks from her junior high and high school and papers that Tinker wrote from junior high through college. The series also contains two diplomas.
The 4-H series (1970-1975) includes one large club member’s record book. Tinker participated in 4-H for several years. The record book includes projects, photographs, and awards that Tinker saved as a member of the “Greeley Go-Getters” 4-H Club.
The Scrapbook series (1972-1980) includes two scrapbooks that focus on Tinker’s time at West Delaware High School and the University of Iowa.
The Photographs series (1958-2002) comprises of photographs of Tinker and her family, including her parents and five younger siblings.

Biographical / Historical
Sharon Tinker (1958-) was born the oldest child of John and Gladys Tinker in 1958. She grew up on a farm near Manchester, Iowa and was active for several years in a local 4-H club. After graduating from West Delaware High School in 1976, Tinker studied engineering at the University of Iowa. She later embarked on a career in chemical engineering that took her to California, Louisiana, Texas, and Singapore. In 2013, the University of Iowa named an endowed professorship in chemical and biochemical engineering in her honor.
