Scope and Contents

The Iowa City Jay-C-Ettes records date from 1964 to 1967 and measure 2.5 linear inches. The scrapbook is roughly divided into the years 1965, 1966, and 1967 with each year containing records of Financials, Civic Activities, Social Activities, State Jay-C-Ettes Relationships, Extensions and Visitations, and Aid to the Jaycees. Loose photographs from 1964 are included at the front of the scrapbook. The end of the scrapbook includes handwritten reports on projects by the Jay-C-Ettes from 1964 to 1967 in addition to Jay-C-Ettes State Awards Rules and applications. Newspaper clippings and photographs are contained throughout the scrapbook.

Biographical / Historical

The Iowa City Jay-C-Ettes was a social and philanthropic club for the wives of Iowa City Jaycees members. The Jay-C-Ettes supported the Jaycees through joint projects such as helping with the Fourth of July Food Booth, and an annual wrapping of Christmas presents for needy children. The Jay-C-Ettes were involved in civic activities such as bake sales, rummage sales, and an annual Style Show and Card Party to raise money for charities. Social activities of the club included bridge parties and visits to other regional

Jay-C-Ettes groups. The Iowa City Jay-C-Ettes hosted the regional conference in 1965, and the clubs’ members held state office positions within the Iowa Jay-C-Ettes organization. The Iowa City Jay-C-Ettes had thirty-two members in 1964, and 20 members two years later.
