Biographical / Historical

Bill Crews, born in 1952, served as the mayor of Melbourne, Iowa, from 1984 to 1998. Crews came out as gay in 1993. As a result, his home in Melbourne was graffitied. This garnered him national media attention. He was re-elected in 1987, 1991, and 1995. He was first a member of the Republican Party of Iowa until becoming a member of the Democratic Party.
