Scope and Contents

The Rita Meade Dohrmann papers date from 1942 and measure .25 linear inches. They are housed in the SCVF. The papers consist a memorial to Dohrmann, inlcuding a photograph, correspondence from the Department of Justice, and newspaper clippings relating to the Women's Political Caucus. Dohrmann's 1975 Master's Thesis is also contained in the papers. Her research focused on children's television programming and the role of gender stereotypes on children's gender consciousness. The papers also include newspaper clipping from Dohrmann's critique of Sesame Street as sexist.

Biographical / Historical

Rita Meade Dohrmann was born on May 3, 1942. She graduated from the University of Iowa in 1964 and received her Master's in Sociology from Drake University in 1972. She lived in Des Moines and married her husband Ruddel Dohrmann in 1964. She died in 1978.
