Biographical / Historical
Born in Decatur, Iowa, in 1891, Arie Artince Gutherie-Cooper did not graduate high school. She trained as a corsettier and was a foundation garment salesperson with teh Bien Jolie Company, where she became concerned with women's health after witnessing many costumers pad their breasts with old fabric after healing from breast surgey. She invented the "bust-contour pad" and in 1945 applied for the United States Patent. That patent was granted in 1947.
