Scope and Contents

The Iowa’s Pride records date from 1996 to 1999 and measure 2.5 linear inches in one box. The records are arranged in one series, Issues (1996-1999). The Issues series contains nearly monthly issues of Iowa’s Pride from December 1996 to April 1999.

Biographical / Historical

Iowa’s Pride was a periodical published by the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Union (GLBTU) at the University of Iowa from 1996 to 1999. The GLBTU, now Pride Alliance, is a student organization at the University of Iowa. When it was founded in 1970, as the Gay Liberation Front, it was the first University funded gay organization in the United States. Iowa’s Pride described itself as a “resource and a forum for members of the lesbian, bisexual, gay, transgender community and their allies.” Issues included opinion and news pieces on LGBTQ issues, original poetry, a calendar of local events, and ads for LGBTQ friendly resources and businesses in Iowa City.
