Biographical / Historical
Phyllis Edwoldt Drake was a high school track star and 6 on 6 basketball player for the Manilla Hawkettes. Growing up in small town Iowa, Drake had the rare opportunity to compete in competitive high school athletics as a young woman. In 1970 and 1971, she helped her track and field team become the Iowa State Champions. In 1974, she aided in her basketball team’s journey to win the Iowa State Championship.
