Biographical / Historical

Lauren Marie Siebert was born in 1975. She served as a collection manager for Rockford Public Library for six years, and then became the Director of Maquoketa Public Library. In Maquoketa, Siebert aided Maquoketa High School students in advocating for a Diversity Club at their school. Siebert later relocated to Iowa City.

Siebert was greatly involved in the Occupy Iowa City movement, a local coalition spawning from the national Occupy movements in 2011. In the fall of 2012, Siebert went to the West Bank in Palestine as part of the International Solidarity Movement but was arrested a week after arrival for participating in a peaceful demonstration. Siebert was released a week later and continued her activism in Palestine, being able to witness the celebrations when the country won U.N. recognition.
