Hedman-Brenneman family papers
Scope and Contents
The Hedman-Brenneman family papers date from 1905 to 2013 and measure 1.04 linear feet across 3 boxes. The papers are arranged in one series: the Lester Brenneman and Anna Hedman courtship letters series, and five additional folders containing photos and ephemera.
The Lester Brenneman and Anna Hedman courtship letters contain more than 100 letters from Lester, Anna, and other members of their families from 1913 to 1920. The bulk of the letters are written by Lester Brenneman and cover a range of topics from manufacturing to wedding arrangements to his service in World War I . Transcriptions of these letters are available as a PDF file entitled My Own Anna, which was compiled in 2013 by Lesanne Brenneman Fliehler, Anna and Lester’s granddaughter.
The five additional folders contain a Swedish grammar book belonging to Anna from approximately 1905, an undergraduate essay on Charles Eric Hedman written by Anna’s sister, Elvera Boelter, a clipping from the Webster City Freeman-Journal about Anna’s antique collecting, a cookbook containing recipes complied by Lesanne Brenneman Fliehler, and photos and ephemera from Anna and Lester’s childhood, marriage, and 50-year wedding anniversary.

She married Lester Brenneman in December of 1920 after a seven-year-long correspondence and moved to Webster City, Iowa, where she would become a homemaker and bookkeeper for the Chevrolet dealership.
