The Records of the University of Iowa School of Library and Information Science are arranged into 11 series: Administrative, Printed Material, Student-Produced Projects, Beta Phi Mu (Beta Beta Theta Chapter), Newsletters, Scholarships, Director's Files, Course Syllabi and Notes, Alumni Correspondence and Student Data, Comprehensive Exams, and Curriculum Committee. In the Comprehensive Exams series, names of the students associated with the files were removed to ensure privacy, and a sampling of exams representing activity every four years was retained.

Ruth Newman Schwarz papers
The Ruth Newman Schwarz papers, 1939-1989, contain correspondence, writings, and organizational materials relating to her research on Jewish child care facilities in post-war France. There is also a series of correspondence after the death of her husband, author Leo W. Schwarz, containing condolence letters.

Carl E. Seashore papers
The Carl E. Seashore papers consists of publications, correspondence, and other ephemera relating to the head of psychology and Dean of the Graduate College. Seashore was instrumental in the University's decision in 1922 to accept creative work in lieu of theses for graduate degrees in the fine and performing arts, the first public university in the United States to do so. Notably, this collection contains the "Seashore Measures of Musical Talent," one of the first talent assessments to gain world-wide recognition.
