Billy Maine and True Fristoe Burlesque Collection

 Collection
Identifier: MsC0150.25
Scope and Contents Billy Maine and True Fristoe were a lyricist/composer team who apparently had a burlesque troupe that toured in the nineteen twenties, mostly in the midwest. The scrapbook in this collection was apparently put together by Marie Fristoe, so it is assumed that the remainder of the collection comes from her, too. Since this is so, there is more original music here than there are lyrics. There are large photographs of Maine and Fristoe, and other smaller photographs. The scrapbook is annotated with the names of many of the people involved, though sometimes it is difficult to tell which photos are from her private life and which those of the troupe, to which she belonged. Some (but not nearly all) of the names mentioned are: Edna Reed, Billie Markell, Halene Davis, Bee Young, Claude Bobbs, Bobby Coswell, Mrs. Billie Marie Maine, Velma Harder, Lizzie Glutz, Babs Ford, Marie Devoe, Bonnie Bland, Ruby Landrum, Donna Dale, Ciel Ryan, Cecil Hales, Shirley Underwood, Dave Miller, and Helen...
