The Serials and Journals Collection consists of over 200 University-produced publications, past and current, reflecting a wide range of academic and campus-related activity. Each entry represents one title and includes, where appropriate and available, date span, alternate titles, and annotations about its content. Each entry represents a full or partial set of the publication. Not all editions of each publication have been consistently transferred to the Archives over time, as practices have varied among creating offices. Where available, the name of the University-based creating office, unit, department or college is included in brackets following the title. These publications are arranged alphabetically by title in the Archives' serials and journals section. Titles followed by a Library of Congress classification number in bold are in the adjacent Archives' cataloged section.

The Subject Vertical Files of the University of Iowa Archives consist of records pertaining to the University's colleges, departments, offices and programs, as well as events and topics. The files may include, but are not limited to, newspaper articles, publications, pamphlets, announcements, special event programs and other documents. The collection is a convenient, wide-ranging source of topical information about University of Iowa history. University Archives Oral History Collection
There have been three University Oral History Projects, the first in 1976-1977 (James Beilman), the second in 1999-2001 (Linda Yanney), the third from 2003-2021 (David McCartney). The first was transcript focused (although some of the interviews have audio recordings) while the second and third were digitally recorded and transcribed, preserving both original recording and transcripts. In the case where Beilman, Yanney, or McCartney were not the ones conducting the interviews in this collection, the name of each interviewer is listed under the specific interview information.

In addition to essays about various subjects of University of Iowa history, the University Centennial History Papers include supporting documents such as correspondence, drafts and notes between the editor and authors.

University Lectures Collection
The collection consists of advertisements, programs, schedules, invitations, newspaper clippings and other materials related to the planning and presentation of lectures at the University of Iowa. Lecture programs represented include the Shambaugh Lectures in Government and Citizenship, Baconian, Freshman, Bose Memorial, UI Extension, Information First, and University Lectures and Forums. The Information First series concerns primarily topics related to journalism and journalistic ethics.
