Scope and Contents Wikipedia: Herbert Marcuse (German: [maʁˈkuːzÉ™]; July 19, 1898 "“ July 29, 1979) was a German Jewish philosopher, sociologist and political theorist, associated with the Frankfurt School of critical theory. Born in Berlin into a Jewish family, Marcuse studied at the universities of Berlin and Freiburg. He was a prominent figure in the Frankfurt-based Institute for Social Research - what later became known as the Frankfurt School. He was married to Sophie Wertheim (1924-1951), Inge Neumann (1955-1972), and Erica Sherover (1976-1979). Active in the United States after 1934, his intellectual concerns were the dehumanizing effects of capitalism and modern technology. After his studies, in the late 1960s and the 1970s he became known as the preeminent theorist of the New Left and the student movements of Germany, France, and the USA. This card was printed by Simon Verity (born 1945) who is a British sculptor and master stonecarver. Much of his work has been garden sculpture. He has works in the private collections of the Prince of Wales, Sir Elton John, and Lord Rothschild. Scope and Contents Internet: 'Meth', an abbreviation for the highly addictive drug, methamphetamine, that was discovered in Japan in 1919. The crystalline powder was soluble in water, thus making it easy for injection. It was also discovered that smoking the drug created the same effects as injecting. The Japanese army used methamphetamine during World War II to prevent sleepiness and was also provided it to their pilots during Kamakazi operations. After the war, the drug became available to the public and subsequently produced a major outbreak of abuse, especially among the young people. Bikers were accused of introducing the drug into the psychedelic "60's causing violence. Since then it has been known by many names, such as Trailer Park Meth and BathTub Meth, because it can be cooked up so cheaply and easily.
