This catalogue was published for the exhibition of works of Bob Cobbing selected from the Sackner Archive. The curator, Matthew Abess, SAS '08, was an intern in the Archive during the summer of 2006 when he researched the material for this exhibition. In addition to writing an in-depth catalogue essay, Matthew Abess organized recorded sound poetry readings on multiple head phones in the gallery, and planned a seminar with cris cheek and Maggie O'Sullivan at the Writers House. This catalogue was published for the exhibition of works of Bob Cobbing selected from the Sackner Archive. The curator, Matthew Abess, SAS '08, was an intern in the Archive during the summer of 2006 when he researched the material for this exhibition. In addition to writing an in-depth catalogue essay, Matthew Abess organized recorded sound poetry readings on multiple head phones in the gallery, and planned a seminar with cris cheek and Maggie O'Sullivan at the Writers House. Since the printing was faded in various parts of sentences on the last pages, Marvin Sackner pointed out that this should be considered a varient and was reminiscent of Cobbing's photoduplicator books. This work is a Young's modification of a Haiku by Basho that can be transilliterated: Matsushima Ya - A A Matshusima Ya - Matsushima Ya. Matshusima is a small archipelago in northern Japan, Ya is one of the abstract, hieretic words used in Haiku according to complex rules, and A (pronounced Ah) is an aparently universal, spontaneous exclamation used as commonly in contemporary America as it was in 17th century Japan. -- Source of annotation: Marvin or Ruth Sackner.

This symposium was subtitled "Ricerche verbovisuali delle seconde avanguardie tra atttualita e tradizione and presented at the Museo di Arte Moderna e Contemporanea di Trento e Rovereto. Ruth and Marvin Sackner were invited to this symposium at MART where Marvin presented "The Collector as Performer." The lecture was translated into Italian by Maria Francescotti. This is one of 25 signed and numbered copies. The remaining 25 copies in the run were unsigned. In the introduction, Helmes writes "In the late 70's I met Ruth and Marvin Sackner and Richard Kostelanetz. They, along with Karl Kempton and Kay Arndt, have been critical supporters of my work for which I am continually grateful." This publication was a senior project by the author for the OSU Department of Industrial, Interior and Visual Communication. Included are reproductions of "The Altered Page" and "Networking" catalogues of exhibitions from the Sackner Archive, a history of the Archive, photographs and an illustrated article by Tom Austin.
