This manuscript, published as a book that is also held by the Sackner Archive, was presented at the First International Symposium on Letterism. In the introduction, Failing focuses on Isou and mentions that James Joyce was his earliest inspiration. Takes up Lemaitre work when he is 24 years old and preparing his picture novel, Canailles. These works were commissioned for "The Beauty In Breathing" exhibition. They depict a young, well-endowed nude model with a stylized figure of the lungs collaged over her chest. In a comic strip like bubble, the word, "Breathe" eminates from her mouth. One of these photographs was selected for an announcement card. The drawing that is not included with the mounted four photographs depicts another image of the lungs that can be collaged onto a photograph to create a different appearance as an option. -- Source of annotation: Marvin or Ruth Sackner.

The second volume constituting Canailles II, III, IV... had a run of only 20 copies compared to the first volume's run of 50 copies in its limited edition.
