Scope and Contents

This exhibition was dedicated to the 200 year memory of Georg Christoph Lichtenberg who was born in 1742 and died in 1799. He attended High School in Darmstadt and studied mathematics and natural sciences in Goettingen from 1763-1766. In 1770, he became an extraordinary professor of experimental physics. Lichtenberg was known for his spirit-rich aphorisms and scientific papers. These aphorisms include among others. 1) A half new invention with a completely new name. 2) Exceptions are not always confirmation of the old rule; they can be also the harbingers of a new rule. 3) It is strange that only extraordinary humans make the discoveries, which seem after so easy and simple; this presupposes that for the simplest project, conditions of the things to notice require very deep knowledge. -- Source of annotation: Marvin or Ruth Sackner.

Identifier: CC-27409-28453
Scope and Contents This book was published on the occasion of Ulrichs' exhibition in the Stadtischen Galerie "der Welte," Iserlohn, Germany. The book consists of pornographic photographs of men and women with a famous artwork in the background of a home setting. These works are either reproductions or actual photographs of the famous works that have been collaged into the photographs and rephotographed. They include master paintings by Picasso, Dali, Warhol, Gauguin, van Gogh among others. The captions under each illustration list the name of the artist, the painting and the name of the collection. The pornographic images are not referred to. Thus, the contradiction, life=sex, is the important issue, not art! The print is an image not included in the book and depicts two Lesbians making love with van Gogh's "Iris" painting in the background. The print is stored in a small notebook in the 1904 apartment. The book is described in Ulrichs' catalogue "Die Druckgrafik" 2003, pages 184-191 and the print...
