In his introduction, Higgins defines a modular poem "in which the principle structural factor is the repetion, usually in different contexts, of one of more elements of th text. Each element becomes a module which may be expanded, compressed or otherwise altered. Or not." According to Kent Taylor in a personal communication (1997) to the Sackners, this was d.a levy's third book. The individual pages comprising the book are printed with different colored inks but all pages are the same dimensions. The cover is a light gray with the title printed on three lines. This is the first printing of the book. The Sackner Archive also holds the "second printing" of the book that has major differences in conten and layout.
